Air traffic between Tartu and Helsinki to begin on 31 March

/ On Sunday, 31 March, Finnair will begin regular flights between Tartu and Helsinki Airport. The first flight departs from Helsinki at 13.50.
According to Tartu Mayor Urmas Klaas, the availability of air traffic is very important for the development of Tartu and the whole region of Southern Estonia. ‘The current flight schedule offers good opportunities for both leisure and business travellers, and this year we also welcome cultural enthusiasts here to enjoy the rich programme of the European Capital of Culture. I hope that the opportunity to fly from Tartu will be actively used.’
There will be 12 trips per week between Tartu and Helsinki Airport. Flights from Tartu depart at 6.00 in the morning and 15.00 in the afternoon. Flights from Helsinki to Tartu depart at 13.50 and 23.55. The length of the flight is 40–45 minutes. Bus line E1 will also start running between Tartu Airport and the City of Tartu. For late night and early morning flights, the bus runs on the route Annelinna Keskus – Kesklinn – Lennujaam and vice versa. On daytime departures, the bus runs between the airport and the city centre. On the airport bus, a single ticket costs EUR 5. The ticket can be purchased from the bus at the entrance to the bus, using a bank card with the contactless payment option, or for money loaded onto the bus card. The service is provided by ABuss OÜ. In order to find an air carrier to fulfil the public service obligation for regular flights between Tartu and Helsinki Airport, the City of Tartu organised a public tender procedure last year. The only tender was submitted by Finnair Oyj, with which a public service contract was signed at the end of the year, valid from 31 March 2024 to 31 December 2027.
