City Day Gala Concert Tells the Story of Tartu’s Journey in the World

/ This year, Tartu City Day will be celebrated over two consecutive days. On 28 June, the City Centre will be filled with a creative and community program, as well as Lemonade Day. On 29 June, the official City Day will be marked with traditional events and the gala concert ‘Tartu on the World Map’.
This year’s City Day gala concert is dedicated to Tartu’s story on the global stage, paying tribute to the people, events, and moments that have put Tartu on the map internationally. The concert will conclude with Airi Liiva’s song ‘The World Is in Our Hands’, performed by young musicians of the future in celebration of Tartu’s year as Youth Capital and to confirm that Tartu’s rise to prominence on the world stage continues.
‘At the gala concert, young musicians and talented dancers from Tartu will come together on stage to showcase the city’s success stories, from science and fashion to sports,’ said Ragnar Konson, producer of the gala concert and City Day celebrations. According to Konson, the program has been designed to offer something for every visitor.
Performers include Anett, Kristjan Häggblom, Hannes Kaljujärv, Federico Mechelli Uhl, Vox pUNT, future musicians from the Heino Eller Music School, the young talents of Laulupesa and Shate, models from the Lift Talent Agency, South Estonian ballroom dancers led by Veiko Ratas, and the Pärnu City Orchestra under the baton of conductor Mihhail Gerts. The concert’s musical director is Mihhail Gerts, while Ragnar Konson serves as artistic director and producer.
On 28 June, the day before City Day, Tartu will mark the 90th anniversary of lemonade with a special Lemonade Day program, culminating in a performance by rap star villemdrillem. The same day will also feature a Creative Street, bringing together more than 30 artists and designers. Visitors can explore vintage buses from Lux Express’s Timeless Collection, tour the Town Hall with the Mayor, join a one-day choir, and take part in many other activities throughout the City Centre.
