/ At the end of February, Tartu welcomed Amna Fikri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Finland and Estonia, for an official visit aimed at strengthening international cooperation and exploring new partnership opportunities between the UAE and Tartu.

During the visit, the Ambassador met with Tartu city leaders, the Rector of the University of Tartu, representatives of research centres and Tartu Science Park, as well as several promising companies already engaged in business with the UAE or interested in expanding into the market. The meetings highlighted Tartu’s vibrant academic and business environment and the potential for mutually beneficial international partnerships.

The programme introduced Tartu’s strengths in science, technology, education and entrepreneurship, and discussed opportunities for collaboration in areas such as green technologies, artificial intelligence, health tech and data-driven solutions.

According to Urmas Klaas, the Mayor of Tartu, visits like this play a key role in opening new avenues for cooperation. “Building strong international relationships is essential for creating lasting impact. Visits and meetings like these strengthen trust, facilitate knowledge exchange and open new opportunities for businesses, researchers and institutions on both sides,” the Mayor explained.

The City of Tartu continues to develop its international engagement, positioning itself as a hub for innovation, research and globally minded entrepreneurship. The visit of the UAE Ambassador marks an important step in deepening ties between Tartu and partners in the Middle East and lays the groundwork for future collaboration and joint initiatives.
