Tartu to open public athletic fields and playgrounds on 1 May
Tartu City Government Press Release
29. aprill / The Tartu City Government has decided that it will open outdoor athletic fields and playgrounds owned by the City on 1 May, with outdoor gyms to remain closed. Due to the continued risk of infection, distancing and hygiene requirements remain in effect on fields and playgrounds.
Mayor Urmas Klaas emphasised that even though playgrounds and athletic fields will be open to everyone at the beginning of May, they must be used responsibly. ‘We are gradually opening movement and recreation opportunities to people, but will be monitoring the situation very closely. In order to avoid the risk of infection, it is crucial that everyone follows the rules’, said Klaas. He added that if the rules are not followed, the City Government will review its previous decisions.
The 2+2 rule must be followed at athletic fields and playgrounds, and hands must be disinfected or washed before and after using the field or playground.
At stadiums belonging to the City, individual training and sports involving groups with a maximum of 10 members will be permitted. Disc golf courses and BMX trails will also be opened from the beginning of May. Athletic facilities, including the grandstand building at Tamme Stadium, will remain closed for the time being.
The City Government will be installing signs with instructions on how to behave at athletic fields and playgrounds.
