Johanna Mudist. Time Traveller

Johanna Mudisti töö Фото: Johanna Mudist

22 октября / On Wednesday, 23 October at 17:30 a new exhibition of oil paintings and miniature drawings Time Traveller by Johanna Mudist will open in the cellar rooms of Galerii Noorus.

The art works on display have been created during the last three years. The visitor will be involved in a short time travel and will get an overview of topics that the artist has been working in recent years.

The display includes pieces, which are a part of the master thesis project that the artist defended in 2017, discussing time, place and body. The paintings are characterised by large format and infinite perspective. Colours used by the artist mediate the deformation and blending of perceptions, which she has experienced on a long hike. Time Traveller can also be associated with the main topic of the artist's first personal exhibition Waiters (2018)  - the portrayal of waiting as a temporal experience.

The paintings from 2019 are inspired by absent-minded dreaming, getting lost in thought, self-searching. Time travelling is a personal experience - „getting lost“ in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the everyday life or staring dreamily into nothingness, when the body is still, but the thoughts have travelled to another place or time. Dreamlike impossible situations and places which describe the destination or the journey itself are also included.

In contrast to the paintings, humorous drawings in the size of a match box, which depict human absurdity, everyday life and fantasy, are also on display.

Johanna Mudist (born 1991) is an artist living and working in Tallinn. She has graduated from the  Department on Painting of Pallas University of Applied Sciences Department (BA) in 2014 and The Estonian Academy of Arts (MA) in 2017. Johanna Mudist has been the member of the Estonian Painters Association since 2017 and the member of the Estonian Artists Association since 2019.

The exhibition is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and  Pallas University of Applied Sciences.
