This department directs and coordinates the activities of educational institutions; advises and instructs heads of educational institutions; advises children and parents on activities, studying options and support systems in educational institutions; keeps track of children requiring nursery school places and organises the putting together of children’s institutions; keeps track of children studying in educational institutions; organises the financing of educational institutions; organises the payment of benefits for persons providing child care services and keeping private nursery schools; coordinates providing support services; and organises educational events and Olympiads.
There are 52 subordinate units functioning under the Department of Education, including all of the schools and nursery schools in Tartu and the Centre of Educational Support Services of Tartu.
