Joint Secretariat of the Estonia-Latvia Programme press release

Avanes taotlusvoor Eesti-Läti koostööprojektidele

7 November / The Estonia-Latvia 2021-2027 programme opened the first call for applications to find sustainable and innovative project ideas in the field of cross-border cooperation, smart and innovative entrepreneurship, environment and tourism.

The Interreg Estonia-Latvia programme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, is aimed at cooperation projects with partners and participants from both sides of the programme area in the South and West of Estonia and the North and West of Latvia.

According to the Head of the National Authority for Interreg programmes in Latvia, Sandis Cakuls, many Latvian and Estonian municipalities, institutions and organisations have already established good neighbourly relations, created partnership networks, developed business projects, elaborated joint tourism products during previous Interreg programming periods. "This paves a good basis for continuation and also totally new collaboration ideas, which are being expected and warmly welcome now for the first call of proposals in the new Interreg Estonia-Latvia programme," he says.

In the period of 2021-2027, the European Regional Development Fund (Interreg) finances the Estonia-Latvia programme with 24.3 million Euro. The programme has four priorities that support the implementation of the strategic goals of the European Union.

Riina Solman, Minister of Public Administration of Estonia, points out that the priority "More cooperating cross-border regions and development of common services" gives the municipalities and organizations of the programme area an opportunity to improve the adjustment of public services in the border area and to look for solutions to the problems of the local community by testing various pilot activities. "Such initiatives help us get closer to having well-operating functional areas between Estonia and Latvia," she added.

In the first application round, project applications can be submitted under all four priorities:

  1. More cooperating cross-border regions and development of joint services (3.41 million EUR).
  2. Support jointly and smartly growing businesses (5.7 million EUR).
  3. Maintain and ensure a sustainable and resilient programme area (9.97 million EUR).
  4. Develop more accessible and sustainable cross-border tourism experience (5.22 million EUR).
  5. The minimum grant size is not fixed. The co-financing of the programme is up to 80%.

The 1st Call for applications is open from 7 November 2022 and closes on 15 February 2023 at 14:00. Applications are submitted electronically through the JEMS environment.
All those interested are invited to participate in a virtual information seminar on 22 November 2022 from 10.00 to 12:30, where the call information and conditions will be introduced.
