Tartu City offers old metal bridge for reuse
Press realase of Tartu City Government
/ Until 31 May, Tartu City receives ideas from people who wish to reuse a metal footbridge dismounted ten years ago.
The bridge is currently stored in Supilinn, at a plot of land on Oa Street.
"The initial plan was to use the old bridge, made at the Dvigatel factory, in the construction of a new bridge across Emajõgi that would connect Marja and Lubja streets. But consultations with various bridge constructors revealed that using details of the old bridge in the construction of a new one would be more expensive than building an entirely new bridge. Other opportunities to reuse the bridge were also investigated but, unfortunately, with no results," Deputy Mayor Valvo Semilarski explains.
He adds that the metal bridge dismounted in 2007 is now also aesthetically unsuitable for the city environment.
The bridge that was built across Emajõgi in 1993 was almost 88 m long and its total width was 5 m. As the city government has no plans to use the dismounted bridge, it will be handed over to an applicant with a good reuse idea free of charge.
Applications can be submitted by the end of May to the Department of Communal Services of the City Government at e-mail address [email protected].
If no suitable ideas are submitted for reusing the old metal bridge, it will be recycled as scrap.
