Tartu receives textile recycling bins

konteiner

/ Eight containers for collecting used clothing were installed in the City of Tartu.

The acquisition of the containers was supported by the Environmental Investment Centre and their emptying and maintenance will be handled by the recycling and charity organisation Humana.

Container locations:

Aardla Selver car park, in front of the building at Võru 79
Veeriku Shopping Centre, Vitamiini 1
Humana shop, Kuperjanovi 20 (by the corner of the building)
Zeppelin Shopping Centre car park, Turu 14
Ujula Konsum car park, Ujula 2a
Jõe Shopping Centre car park , Sõbra 58
In front of the Annelinna Shopping Centre, Kalda tee 43
Annelinna Prisma car park, Nõlvaku 2

The following clean textiles may be placed in the containers: clothing, curtains, bed-linens and so on, along with used footwear, bags, belts and toys. We ask that clothing be placed in the containers in sealed bags, so that they do not become soiled when the container is emptied.

Clothing that is soiled with oil and other chemicals, damaged shoes and toys, electronics and books may not be placed in the containers.

All objects placed in the containers will reach Humana’s sorting facility, where they will be sorted. Clothing that is fit to be worn will reach Humana shops or be sent as donations to our partner organisations in Mozambique, Angola, Malawi and Zambia. Objects that are not fit to be worn will be directed to reprocessing.

Textile containers are also located at Tartu’s waste centres, located at Jaama 72c and Turu 49. Textiles can be disposed of at the waste centre located on Jaama Street for a symbolic fee (1 cent per tonne), while the Turu Street waste centre accepts textile waste at the price of 18 cents per kilogram.
