/ The Estonian Hydrogen Days 2025 are set to take place at the University of Tartu on October 9–10, bringing together top scientists, businesses, and policymakers. The conference is organized by the University of Tartu, Metrosert (RUK), TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology, and Estonian Business and Innovation Agency. This year's focus is on the critical role of hydrogen in strengthening the region's energy security and national defence.

The conference boasts a stellar lineup of international keynote speakers:

  • Carmen Font (Experienced Green Technology Investor and IEA Expert)
  • Simo Säynevirta (ABB Technology Visionary)
  • Professor Sadegh Seddighi (Head of Balanced Energy Systems at HAN University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands)

According to Priit Ilomets, Head of the Hydrogen Technology Unit at Metrosert, the connection between hydrogen and energy security has become especially vital due to instability in our energy markets. Discussions will cover a wide range of topics, from strategic hydrogen investments and fuel cells in the defence industry to supply chains and port infrastructure development.

"21st-century energy security is no longer about access to fuel, but the ability to own and develop critical technologies," says Ilomets. "Estonia's opportunity is not mass production, but creating world-class solutions—companies developing electrolysers and fuel cells whose technology is valued globally."

Practical case studies will also be presented by Estonian pioneers like Elcogen, PowerUP, Stargate Hydrogen, and Elering, demonstrating how hydrogen's role extends from grid stability to defence supply resilience. Metrosert is actively developing a semi-industrial testing centre (up to 0.5 MW) for electrolysers and fuel cells to provide quick and flexible support for the deep-tech ecosystem in Estonia.
