9 November / Finnair has announced that it will be restoring the air connection between Tartu and Helsinki as of 28 March 2022.

Flights between Tartu and Helsinki will begin to operate five times a week, offering opportunities for both business and holiday travel. The flights will take place in the evening on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, allowing travellers to catch connecting flights in Finnair’s late-night wave to Asia, Scandinavia and also domestic routes within Finland. The flights will take place during the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, offering the convenient opportunity to change aircraft and to catch connecting flights within Finnair’s European route network and to Asia.

According to Eero Pärgmäe, Chief Commercial Officer of Tallinn Airport, the restoration of the route is the result of cooperation and working towards achieving a common goal. ‘We are pleased that we will be able to reopen the air connection next year that was cut off last year due to the pandemic. We thank and acknowledge the City of Tartu, which has demonstrated a clear desire to restore air traffic throughout this difficult period and also stands ready to support it. In addition to the support of the city, it is also important for us that the state continues its support for regional airports, which has allowed Tartu to maintain a state of readiness to reopen flights,’ said Pärgmäe, adding that confidence in the success of the route was provided by the excellent pre-pandemic load factors as well as continuous inquiries and questions regarding the restoration of the air connection from Tartu.

Tartu Mayor Urmas Klaas welcomed the reopening of the route, noting that ‘under limited circumstances, Finnair has been able to offer a flexible solution that covers the needs of both business clients and tourists.’ Adding that ‘we are very grateful to both Finnair and Tallinn Airport for their stable cooperation and support, thanks to which Tartu will once again have an international air connection from the end of March.’

Finnair’s 70-seat ATR-72 will begin flying on the Tartu-Helsinki route.
