Big Christmas Fair taking place in Tartu on Saturday
4 December / On Saturday, 8 December from 11-17, a big Christmas Fair will be taking place at the Tartu Town Hall Square and along Küüni Street.
More than 250 traders are expected in Tartu’s beautifully decorated City Centre, who will be selling handicrafts that are perfect for Christmas gifts and tasty food for the Christmas table.
An extensive selection of handicrafts will be offered at the Christmas Fair – trading will take place with knitted fabrics, jewellery, basketry as well as ceramics, glass art and forged objects. There will be Christmas items and candles to help decorate your home. The fair traditionally offers a large selection of smoked meat and fish products, blood sausages, sauerkraut, baked goods, honey and sweets.
A number of charitable organisations will also be present at the Fair, to provide an introduction to their activities.
Also helping to create a Christmas state of mind will be merry Santa Clause Uudu, who will be waiting for children to read poems from 12.00-14.00. Enthusiastic performances will be given at 12.30 and 14.00 by the brass band Tartu Elf Orchestra. Children will be able to make crafts in the SPARK Makerlab workshop from 11.00-17.00, and from 12.00-15.00 they will be able to work together with the Estonian Police Museum to find out who places gifts under the Christmas tree or what an elf’s footprints look like.
The Christmas Fair is being coordinated by the Entrepreneurship Department of the Tartu City Government.
