For the second year running Tartu City Day is held in the operatic style

/ To mark Tartu City Day, the National Archives of Estonia will publish eight special photographs on Tartu City Day’s Facebook and Instagram pages of Tartu bridges that symbolise people gathering and cooperating, just as they do at city events.
29 June, Tartu City Day, will be like a small festival of opera and classical music in general, serving as a virtual bridge between such genres and those interpreters that would not usually engage with this kind of music.
This year the festivities will start in the afternoon of 28 June, with a symphonic orchestra performance in the Tartu Kaubamaja department store, and go well into 30 June.
On Tartu City Day operas and soloists, classical music on the whole will go out on the town, accompanied by artists. So at the end of the first summer month Tartu residents and guests will witness an exciting symbiosis of different genres, with the borders between them becoming less of an obstacle in the way of creative expression. There will be plenty of stirring concerts and other stimulating experiences.
At 9 o’clock in the evening the gala concert on Town Hall Square will provide a musical summary of the day, with performances by local and guest opera soloists with symphonic orchestra accompaniment.
The National Archives of Estonia will select and publish weekly a total of eight special photographs on Tartu City Day’s Facebook and Instagram pages during the Noora Thursday event of Tartu bridges taken from 1870–1980. These will emphasise the nature of this city and the virtual bridges between people, institutions and enterprises that result in wonderful events like this Tartu City Day. We can hope these old images will also go some way towards negating the temporary inconvenience caused by the repairs carried out on one of Tartu’s symbols, the Arch Bridge.
For the second year in a row Reigo Tamm, an opera soloist from the Vanemuine Theatre, is the artistic director of the Tartu City Day. The event is organised by the Tiigi Community Centre.
