New cafes will be coming to the banks of the Emajõgi River next year
Tartu City Government Press Release
24 September / The City Government is leasing the Vabaduse puiestee 1c registered immovable – located on the banks of the Emajõgi River – to the private limited companies Cafe Chef, Gustav Café, and Väike Kuuba, which will be opening cafés there next summer.
A total of more than 20 offers were received as part of the lease competition for the land located at Vabaduse puiestee 1c. Tartu Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm considers the competition to have been a success. ‘Despite the difficult year, interest by entrepreneurs in the competition was very high. This, in turn, encourages us to find and create new opportunities along and on the river in the future. We are pleased that the ten-year lease period made it possible to offer high-quality and attractive architectural solutions that will help to create a very pleasant environment for visitors along the river’, said the Deputy Mayor, who also chaired the evaluation committee.
The assessment took into account the amount of rent offered, the concept of the proposed service, including the planned activities and menus, and the construction solution for the catering establishment.
In the opinion of the evaluation committee, the solution offered by Cafe Chef OÜ was modern and comprehensive and aimed at a broad target group. The plan to start organizing dinner concerts was considered positive. The architectural solution offered by Väike Kuuba OÜ and the cultural and entertainment programme were very well thought out based on their location. In the case of Gustav Cafe OÜ, the evaluation committee found that the proposed menu is unique and well thought out, and the planning of activities during the Christmas period was highlighted as positive. The design of the building and glass boxes also received plus points.
The land is being leased for 10 years. Catering establishments must begin operating on 1 June 2021.
