Tartu set to begin reconstruction of street lighting in Annelinn District
Tartu City Government Press Release
/ Reconstruction of street lighting is set to begin in the Annelinn District this summer, and will continue until the end of 2021.
The city’s biggest residential district will receive modern and energy efficient street lighting.
According to Deputy Mayor Raimond Tamm, Tartu has set its sights on renovating street lighting throughout the city, in order to reduce the amount of energy consumed by lighting, and to also raise the reliability and quality of lighting.
Street lighting in the area between Sõpruse Avenue and Mõisavahe Street is being reconstructed in Annelinn. Reconstruction works include nearly 1000 street lights. During the course of the works existing lights will be replaced with energy efficient LED lights, and posts and cabling will be replaced.
Reconstruction will improve the reliability of street lighting in the entire area, reduce maintenance costs, and also save energy. The planned energy savings are 371 MWh of electricity per year, which is nearly 50% of the current cost in the area.
Works are planned to begin in June, and the deadline for their completion is December 2021.
The Annelinn District street lighting reconstruction project is being financed to an extent of 70% with resources from the Cohesion Fund. The total cost of the project is nearly EUR 2 million.
