12 January / At the beginning of this week, the Village of Light, comprised of glass pavilions on Tartu Town Hall Square, will be packed away; however, the skating rink will keep the townspeople happy until mid-February. Tartu’s Christmas tree will be removed from the Town Hall Square next week.

The nearly 1000 square metre skating rink will remain open on Tartu Town Hall Square until 17 February. ‘Then it will be time to tidy up the Town Hall Square for the start of spring and to start waiting, beginning in March, for the exciting events set to happen in Tartu in the spring and summer’, explained Maris Peebo, Director of the Tiigi Community Centre.

Until then, you can skate every day from 10.00 to 22.00. As the spread of the coronavirus intensifies, and in response to orders from the Government of the Republic, the opening hours of the skating rink may be restricted.

In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the traditional opening of the ice sculpture on Town Hall Square at the beginning of this year – which typically marks the arrival of the New Year in Asian countries – has also been cancelled.
